Job Summary:

As an SEN Behaviour Support Assistant (SLD), you will work closely with students who have Severe Learning Difficulties to provide them with the necessary support, guidance, and intervention to manage their behaviour effectively. Your role will involve assisting them in developing positive social skills, managing emotions, and promoting independence. By implementing individualised strategies and working collaboratively with teachers and other professionals, you will help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that meets the unique needs of each student.

Responsibilities:

  • Support students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) in managing their behaviour and promoting positive social interactions.
  • Implement individualised behaviour support plans, tailored to each student’s specific needs and goals.
  • Assist students in developing coping strategies and emotional regulation techniques.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages independence, self-esteem, and personal growth.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SEN coordinators, and other professionals to ensure consistent approaches and effective communication.
  • Provide one-on-one support to students during classroom activities, ensuring their inclusion and engagement.
  • Support students in accessing the curriculum and adapting materials as necessary.
  • Monitor and record student progress, behaviour incidents, and interventions.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/carers, providing regular updates on student progress and discussing strategies for support.
  • Assist with personal care and physical support as required.
  • Attend relevant training and professional development sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge in supporting students with SLD.
  • Maintain a safe and nurturing learning environment, following safeguarding procedures and promoting the well-being of students.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience working with students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and challenging behaviour is desirable.
  • A caring and patient approach, with a genuine passion for supporting students with special educational needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • The ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations and apply appropriate behaviour management strategies.
  • Understanding of different behaviour management techniques and the ability to implement individualised plans effectively.
  • Knowledge of special educational needs and the impact they can have on behaviour and learning.
  • Basic understanding of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of students and the school environment.
  • Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance or willingness to obtain one.
  • A genuine interest in personal and professional development, including attending relevant training and workshops.
