Lexia Education Services is seeking a compassionate and skilled PMLD Behaviour Support Specialist to join our team in Taunton, Somerset. We are a leading provider of alternative education, committed to supporting students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) in their educational and personal development journeys. In this role, you will play a vital role in understanding and addressing the behavioural challenges faced by students with PMLD, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialised support to students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), focusing on their behavioural needs and challenges.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to develop and implement behaviour support plans tailored to each student’s individual needs.
  • Assess, monitor, and track the behavioural progress of students with PMLD, utilising evidence-based strategies and interventions.
  • Create and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes engagement, social interaction, and emotional well-being.
  • Implement proactive approaches to prevent challenging behaviours, utilizing de-escalation techniques and crisis management strategies when necessary.
  • Work closely with families, providing guidance and support to help them understand and address the behavioural needs of their child with PMLD.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, building trust and rapport to effectively support their social and emotional development.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and professionals, such as speech and language therapists or occupational therapists, to provide holistic support for students with PMLD.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in supporting students with PMLD, continuously enhancing your knowledge and skills.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities provided by Lexia Education Services to enhance your expertise in PMLD support.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), preferably in a behavioural support or educational setting.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of PMLD, its impact on behaviour, and strategies for addressing behavioural challenges.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based behaviour support strategies and interventions for students with PMLD.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a person-centred approach when working with students with complex needs.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations, employing effective behaviour management techniques.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the unique needs of students with PMLD and the changing demands of the educational setting.
  • Relevant qualifications or certifications in special education, behaviour support, or related fields are desirable.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and staying up-to-date with advancements in the field.
