Lexia Education Services is seeking a dedicated ASC Teaching Assistant with a focus on Behaviour Support to join our team in Yeovil, Somerset. We are a leading provider of alternative education, committed to supporting students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in their educational and personal development journeys. In this role, you will work closely with students with ASC to provide tailored support, promote positive behaviour, and create an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and group support to students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) within the classroom setting.
  • Implement individualised behaviour support plans to address the unique needs and challenges of students with ASC.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting social interaction, engagement, and emotional well-being.
  • Support students with ASC in their academic and personal development, assisting with tasks and activities as required.
  • Utilise effective behaviour management strategies and techniques to address challenging behaviours and promote positive behaviour.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure consistent support and a holistic approach to student care.
  • Monitor and track the progress and development of students with ASC, providing feedback and reporting to the appropriate parties.
  • Support students in developing social skills, communication abilities, and independence to enhance their overall well-being and integration.
  • Build positive relationships with students, creating a trusting and supportive environment where they can thrive.
  • Collaborate with parents and families, providing guidance and support to help them understand and address the needs of their child with ASC.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills in supporting students with ASC.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research, strategies, and best practices in Autism Spectrum Condition and behaviour support.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in an educational or behavioural support capacity.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Autism Spectrum Condition, including its characteristics, challenges, and strategies for support.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based behaviour support strategies and interventions for students with ASC.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and a person-centred approach when working with students with ASC.
  • Ability to adapt and modify approaches based on the unique needs and learning styles of individual students.
  • Flexibility to collaborate and work as part of a team in a fast-paced educational environment.
  • Relevant qualifications or certifications in special education, autism support, or related fields are desirable.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and staying up-to-date with advancements in the field.
