The Rising Need for 1:1 Tutors

Across the UK, more and more children are falling out of education, waiting for the right kind of support to help them reconnect and rebuild confidence. With rising numbers of neurodivergent learners and increasing absences from school, the need for one-to-one tuition has never been greater. At Lexia Education Services, we believe every child deserves someone in their corner – and as our reach grows, so does our commitment to finding passionate tutors who can make a real difference.

Every Child Deserves a Chance to Reconnect with Learning

Across the UK, thousands of children are struggling to access education in the way that works best for them. Through unmet needs, and time out of school, too many young people are missing the vital connection that helps them thrive.

According to the Department for Education, more than 140,000 children in England are currently recorded as severely absent – missing over half their school sessions. Behind every number is a young person who’s not receiving the right support, and has struggled to engage in their education.

At the same time, around 1 in 5 children in the UK are neurodivergent – including those with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and other learning differences. These children often need more personalised, understanding approaches to learning than mainstream classrooms can always provide.

This is exactly where one-to-one support can change everything.

A Growing Need for One-to-One Support

The demand for 1:1 tuition has grown rapidly over the past few years. A report by the Sutton Trust found that over 40% of secondary school students have received some form of tutoring – and that number continues to rise.

But behind this trend lies a deeper truth: many children aren’t just looking to “get ahead.” They’re looking to get back on track.

Schools, parents, and local authorities are increasingly seeking specialist tutors who understand complex needs, who can meet learners where they are, and who can help rebuild not just learning but their self belief.

At Lexia Education Services, we’ve seen this shift firsthand. Each month, more schools, parents and local authorities reach out to us looking for qualified, compassionate tutors who can work 1:1 with pupils who’ve fallen out of education or need extra support to stay engaged.

And as we grow, one thing remains at the heart of what we do:

Supporting as many children as we can to believe in themselves again.

More Than Tuition

A great tutor doesn’t just teach a subject. They listen. They adapt. They build relationships.

At Lexia, our tutors are mentors as much as educators. They help young people rediscover the joy of learning, step by step – celebrating small wins and nurturing resilience along the way.

We work with children who’ve faced everything from disrupted schooling, care placements, and additional learning needs. Each child deserves someone who shows up consistently and believes in their potential.

This is exactly why we do what we do.

Why Tutors Are Needed Now More Than Ever

The landscape of education is changing fast. With post-pandemic challenges, rising neurodiversity diagnoses, and ongoing pressure on school systems, individualised support is no longer a luxury – it’s a lifeline.

  • 140,000+ children are persistently or severely absent (DfE 2024).
  • 1.5 million children in the UK are recognised as having a special educational need or disability (SEND).
  • Demand for private and intervention tutoring has increased by over 30% since 2020 (Sutton Trust, 2023).

The message is clear: more young people need specialist tutors to help them rebuild their educational journey.

As Lexia Grows, Our Mission Stays the Same

Growth means we can reach more children, support more schools, and empower more families – but it also means we need more people who share our values.

We’re proud of how far we’ve come, but our focus remains grounded in what matters most:

impacting the future, one child at a time.

Every day, we see the difference a single session can make – the smile when something “clicks,” the confidence to speak up again, the hope that slowly returns. That’s the Lexia difference.
