We are committed to providing a nurturing learning environment for students with diverse needs, and as a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a vital role in empowering students to manage their emotions, develop positive behaviours, and achieve academic success.

Job Summary:

As a Behaviour Mentor (SEMH), you will work closely with students who require additional support in managing their behaviours and emotions. Your expertise in SEMH strategies and interventions will help students build self-awareness, develop coping mechanisms, and cultivate positive relationships. By fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment, you will enable students to thrive academically and socially.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and group support to students with SEMH needs, implementing behaviour management strategies and interventions.
  • Build positive relationships with students, earning their trust and promoting a sense of belonging within the school community.
  • Conduct assessments to understand students’ individual needs, challenges, and triggers, and develop tailored behaviour support plans.
  • Assist students in identifying and managing their emotions, helping them develop effective coping mechanisms and self-regulation skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents/guardians, and external professionals to create a consistent support network for students.
  • Implement behaviour monitoring systems, track progress, and provide regular feedback to students, parents/guardians, and the school.
  • Support students in developing social skills, conflict resolution strategies, and positive communication techniques.
  • Act as a role model, promoting positive behaviour and fostering a respectful and inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Relevant qualifications in psychology, counselling, or a related field.
  • Proven experience working with students with SEMH needs, implementing behaviour management strategies and interventions.
  • Sound knowledge of SEMH theories, best practices, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport and establish positive relationships with students and stakeholders.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to provide consistent support to students in challenging situations.
  • Excellent observation and assessment skills to identify triggers and implement appropriate strategies.
  • Organisational skills to manage caseloads effectively and maintain accurate records.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the unique needs of individual students and respond to changing circumstances.
