We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition) Mentor to join our team in an Alternative Learning Provision based in Bristol. As an ASC Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting and empowering young people with Autism Spectrum Conditions, helping them to thrive in their learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Individualised Support: Provide individualised support and guidance to young people with Autism Spectrum Conditions, tailoring interventions to meet their specific needs and abilities.
  2. Autism Awareness: Demonstrate a strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Conditions and their impact on learning, communication, and social interaction. Apply this knowledge to create an inclusive and supportive environment.
  3. Behavioural Support: Implement strategies and interventions to address challenging behaviours associated with Autism Spectrum Conditions. Foster positive behaviour management techniques, focusing on reinforcing appropriate behaviours and promoting social skills development.
  4. Personalised Learning Plans: Collaborate with educational professionals and support teams to develop and implement personalised learning plans, incorporating appropriate accommodations and modifications to support the individual needs of students with Autism Spectrum Conditions.
  5. Communication and Social Skills: Facilitate the development of effective communication and social skills among students with Autism Spectrum Conditions. Provide guidance and practice opportunities to enhance their ability to interact and engage with peers and adults.
  6. Sensory Support: Recognise and address sensory sensitivities and difficulties commonly experienced by individuals with Autism Spectrum Conditions. Create sensory-friendly environments and implement strategies to support sensory regulation.
  7. Partnership with Parents and Professionals: Work closely with parents, guardians, and external professionals to ensure a consistent and holistic approach to supporting students with Autism Spectrum Conditions. Collaborate on strategies and share progress updates to foster a cohesive support network.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Relevant Experience: Previous experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Conditions, ideally in an educational or similar setting, is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Conditions: A solid understanding of Autism Spectrum Conditions and familiarity with evidence-based interventions and support strategies.
  • Empathy and Patience: Demonstrated ability to empathise with students with Autism Spectrum Conditions, displaying patience, understanding, and adaptability to meet their unique needs.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues. The ability to provide clear guidance, feedback, and progress updates is essential.
  • Collaborative Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, actively contributing insights and ideas to enhance the overall support provided to students.
