We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Youth Mentoring and Intervention Worker to join our team in Gloucestershire. As a Youth Mentoring and Intervention Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting and guiding young people facing challenging circumstances, helping them overcome barriers, and empowering them to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Mentoring and Support: Provide one-on-one mentoring and support to young people, building trusting relationships and offering guidance, encouragement, and practical assistance. Empower young people to set and achieve personal goals, develop life skills, and navigate challenges.
  2. Intervention and Crisis Management: Identify and respond to crisis situations, employing appropriate intervention strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of young people. Collaborate with relevant agencies and professionals to develop crisis management plans and provide immediate support when required.
  3. Advocacy and Referral: Advocate for young people, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met. Liaise with external agencies, schools, and other support services to facilitate access to appropriate resources and opportunities for young people.
  4. Personal Development: Design and deliver group workshops and activities to promote personal development, resilience, positive mental health, and well-being among young people. Help young people develop skills in areas such as communication, decision-making, conflict resolution, and goal-setting.
  5. Collaborative Working: Work closely with colleagues, schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach in supporting young people. Collaborate on the development and implementation of intervention plans and share relevant information and progress updates.
  6. Monitoring and Evaluation: Regularly monitor and evaluate the progress and outcomes of mentoring and intervention activities, documenting observations, achievements, and challenges. Collect and analyse data to inform programme development and improve effectiveness.
  7. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all interactions, assessments, and interventions, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to data protection regulations.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Relevant Experience: Previous experience working with young people in a mentoring or support capacity is essential. Experience in youth intervention, crisis management, or social work is highly desirable.
  • Empathy and Relationship-Building Skills: Demonstrated ability to engage with and build trusting relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds. Display empathy, patience, and excellent active listening skills.
  • Problem-Solving and Resilience: Ability to think critically, problem-solve, and remain resilient in challenging situations. Adaptability and flexibility to respond effectively to evolving needs and circumstances.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with young people, families, and professionals. Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with individuals from different backgrounds and experiences.
  • Collaborative Team Player: A strong team player who can collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, contributing to a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Safeguarding Knowledge: A comprehensive understanding of safeguarding principles and practices, with a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of young people.
  • Driving License: A valid driving license and access to a vehicle is desirable due to the nature of the role and potential travel requirements.
