We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Learning Mentor to join our team in Gloucestershire. As an SEN Learning Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in their academic and personal development. With your expertise and passion for inclusive education, you will help create a positive and nurturing learning environment where all students can thrive.
Responsibilities:
- Individualised Support: Provide tailored support to students with SEN, addressing their unique learning needs and challenges. Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to support their academic progress and social-emotional well-being.
- Academic Assistance: Work closely with teachers to adapt and differentiate instructional materials, ensuring students with SEN can access the curriculum effectively. Provide one-on-one or small group support, delivering targeted interventions to reinforce learning and develop key skills.
- Behavioural Guidance: Foster positive behaviour and social skills development among students with SEN. Implement strategies to manage challenging behaviours and promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.
- Emotional Support: Offer emotional support and encouragement to students with SEN, helping them build self-confidence and resilience. Create a nurturing and supportive atmosphere where students feel valued, understood, and motivated to succeed.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with teachers, parents/guardians, and other professionals involved in the students’ support network. Attend meetings, contribute to reviews and evaluations, and maintain regular communication to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
- Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess students’ progress, identifying strengths, areas for improvement, and additional support needs. Keep accurate records and contribute to the preparation of reports to ensure effective tracking of student achievements.
Requirements:
- Relevant Qualifications: Possess a degree or certification in Special Education, Education Studies, or a related field. Additional training in SEN support or interventions is highly desirable.
- Experience: Demonstrated experience working with students with SEN in an educational or supportive capacity. Familiarity with a variety of SEN conditions and understanding of appropriate strategies and interventions.
- Empathy and Patience: Show genuine empathy, patience, and sensitivity when working with students with SEN. Adapt your communication and teaching style to meet individual needs and create an inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborative Nature: Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with teachers, support staff, parents/guardians, and external professionals. Strong communication skills are essential for effective collaboration.
- Organisation and Adaptability: Manage a diverse workload, prioritizing tasks and adapting to changing circumstances. Demonstrate excellent organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
