Job Summary:

As a Mentoring and Sports Coach, you will play a vital role in providing guidance, support, and mentorship to students within an Alternative Provision School setting. You will have the opportunity to utilise your passion for sports to engage students, promote physical activity, and foster their personal and social development. Through mentoring relationships, you will empower students to overcome obstacles, build self-confidence, and achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain positive mentoring relationships with students, promoting their well-being and personal growth.
  • Design and deliver sports coaching sessions that focus on skill development, teamwork, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
  • Support students in setting and achieving personal goals, both academically and personally.
  • Provide guidance and support to students in managing their emotions, developing coping strategies, and enhancing their self-esteem.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to develop and implement individualised mentoring plans based on students’ needs and goals.
  • Assist students in improving their social skills, conflict resolution abilities, and positive communication strategies.
  • Monitor and evaluate students’ progress, documenting their achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Work closely with parents and guardians to ensure effective communication and partnership in supporting students’ development.
  • Collaborate with the wider school team to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Adhere to safeguarding procedures and promote the well-being and safety of all students.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in mentoring, coaching, or working with young people, preferably within an educational or alternative provision setting.
  • Knowledge and passion for sports, with the ability to plan and deliver engaging coaching sessions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build positive relationships with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by young people in alternative provision settings and a commitment to their holistic development.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to motivate and inspire students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the individual needs of students and respond to changing circumstances.
  • Excellent organisational skills to plan and manage mentoring sessions and sports activities effectively.
  • Commitment to professional growth and development, staying updated with best practices in mentoring and sports coaching.
  • Relevant sports coaching qualifications or certifications are desirable.
  • A valid driving license and access to transportation may be required.
