We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Alternative Education Behaviour Mentor to join our team in Bristol. As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting and guiding young people to develop positive behaviours, enhance their social skills, and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Behavioural Support: Provide individualised behavioural support and guidance to young people in alternative education settings. Implement positive behaviour management strategies to address challenging behaviours and foster a positive learning environment.
  2. Mentoring and Coaching: Build strong relationships with students, acting as a mentor and role model. Offer guidance, encouragement, and practical support to help them navigate social interactions, improve self-esteem, and develop effective coping mechanisms.
  3. Individual Behaviour Plans: Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement individual behaviour plans. Design strategies, interventions, and rewards systems tailored to the specific needs of each student, promoting their engagement and progress.
  4. Social Skills Development: Facilitate the development of social skills and emotional regulation techniques in young people. Provide structured activities, group sessions, and one-on-one support to improve communication, conflict resolution, and self-control.
  5. Academic Engagement: Work closely with teachers and education providers to promote student engagement and participation in learning activities. Help students set academic goals, monitor their progress, and provide academic support as needed.
  6. Crisis Intervention: Be prepared to handle crisis situations and de-escalate potentially volatile incidents. Implement appropriate strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff, following established protocols and procedures.
  7. Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess and monitor the progress of students, documenting behavioural changes and academic improvements. Provide feedback and reports to relevant stakeholders, contributing to collaborative decision-making and individualised support plans.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Relevant Experience: Previous experience in behaviour support, mentoring, or working with young people in alternative education settings is essential. Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and interventions is highly desirable.
  • Empathy and Resilience: Demonstrate empathy, patience, and resilience when working with students facing behavioural challenges. Remain calm and composed in challenging situations, maintaining a positive and supportive approach.
  • Relationship Building: Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with young people from diverse backgrounds. Foster trusting relationships that empower students to open up and seek guidance.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, using a proactive and solution-focused approach to address behavioural issues and support students in overcoming obstacles to their learning.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive and consistent approach to student support. Actively contribute to team meetings, sharing insights and strategies.
  • Safeguarding Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures, prioritising the well-being and safety of students at all times.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Willingness to work flexible hours and adapt to the evolving needs of students and the alternative education environment.
