We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Tutor to join our team in Somerset, focusing on supporting children with sensory and/or physical needs. As a Tutor, you will play a crucial role in empowering these children to reach their full potential, overcome challenges, and thrive in their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Individualised Learning: Design and deliver tailored learning programmes to meet the unique needs of children with sensory and/or physical challenges. Adapt teaching strategies and materials to promote accessibility and engagement, ensuring each child’s learning style is accommodated.
  2. Multi-sensory Approach: Utilise a multi-sensory approach to enhance learning experiences for children with sensory impairments. Incorporate visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic elements into lessons to optimise their understanding and retention of information.
  3. Physical Support: Provide physical support and assistance to children with mobility challenges, ensuring their safety and comfort within the learning environment. Collaborate with other professionals, such as occupational therapists or physical therapists, to implement appropriate strategies and techniques.
  4. Communication and Language Development: Foster the development of communication and language skills for children with sensory impairments. Utilise alternative communication methods, such as sign language or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems, to facilitate effective communication and expression.
  5. Assistive Technology: Incorporate the use of assistive technology and adaptive equipment to enhance learning opportunities for children with sensory and/or physical needs. Stay updated on the latest technologies and tools that can support their educational progress.
  6. Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess and monitor the progress of each child, identifying areas of strength and areas that require further support. Provide constructive feedback and implement strategies to address learning gaps and promote continuous improvement.
  7. Collaboration and Support: Work collaboratively with parents, caregivers, teachers, and other professionals involved in the child’s education. Foster open communication and partnership to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to support the child’s development.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Relevant Experience: Previous experience working with children with sensory and/or physical needs is essential. Experience in special education, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Sensory and Physical Skills: Knowledge of sensory processing disorders, visual impairments, hearing impairments, physical disabilities, or related conditions. Familiarity with adaptive equipment and assistive technology is advantageous.
  • Empathy and Patience: Demonstrate empathy, patience, and understanding when working with children with diverse needs. Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes their self-confidence and well-being.
  • Adaptability and Creativity: Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to cater to the unique learning needs and abilities of each child. Utilise creative approaches to engage and motivate children in their learning journey.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with children, parents, and other professionals. Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Safeguarding Knowledge: A comprehensive understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures, prioritizing the well-being and safety of the children at all times.
  • Flexibility and Availability: Willingness to work flexible hours and accommodate varying schedules to meet the needs of the children and their families.
