Lexia Education Services is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Learning Support Assistant to join our team in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. As a leading provider of specialised education, we are committed to providing inclusive and tailored support to students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). In this role, you will play a crucial part in assisting students with their educational and personal development, ensuring they receive the necessary support to thrive academically and socially.


  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with Severe Learning Difficulties, assisting with their educational and personal development.
  • Adapt and modify curriculum materials to meet the individual needs and abilities of students, promoting inclusive learning experiences.
  • Support students with daily activities, including personal care, mobility, and communication, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Collaborate closely with the teaching staff to implement personalised education plans, monitoring and reporting on student progress.
  • Assist students in developing their communication and social skills, promoting independence and fostering positive relationships.
  • Utilise appropriate strategies and resources to support students’ access to the curriculum, promoting engagement and participation.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and interventions to address challenging behaviours and create a positive learning environment.
  • Support students during transitions, both within the school setting and into mainstream educational settings if applicable.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student progress, ensuring data protection and confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, such as SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators) and therapists, to provide holistic support to students.


  • Experience working with students with Severe Learning Difficulties, preferably in an educational or special needs setting.
  • Understanding of different learning styles and the ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach when working with students with diverse learning abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians.
  • Knowledge of special educational needs and strategies to support students with SLD.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions from teaching staff.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the school environment.
  • Relevant qualifications and certifications in education or related fields are desirable.
