Lexia Education Services is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Behaviour Specialist with expertise in supporting students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) to join our team in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. As a leading provider of alternative education, we are committed to providing tailored support to students with SLD, ensuring their academic progress and personal development. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing strategies and interventions to address behavioural challenges, foster positive social interactions, and promote a supportive learning environment for students with SLD.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support to students with SLD, addressing their specific behavioural challenges and needs.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other professionals to develop and implement behaviour support plans tailored to each student’s requirements.
  • Utilise evidence-based strategies and interventions to promote positive behaviour, social skills development, and engagement in learning.
  • Support students in developing self-regulation strategies, coping mechanisms, and independence, fostering their overall well-being and confidence.
  • Monitor and track students’ progress in behavioural goals, documenting observations and providing regular feedback to teaching staff and parents/guardians.
  • Ensure the implementation of strategies and accommodations outlined in students’ Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring their access to an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and professionals, such as educational psychologists or speech and language therapists, to provide comprehensive support for students with SLD.
  • Organize and facilitate group sessions or workshops to educate students, teachers, and parents about SLD, behavioural strategies, and effective support techniques.
  • Stay updated with the latest research, interventions, and best practices in supporting students with SLD, continuously enhancing your knowledge and skills in the field.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment by fostering a culture of understanding, acceptance, and respect for students with SLD.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), preferably in an educational or behavioural support capacity.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of SLD and its impact on learning, behaviour, and social interactions.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based strategies, interventions, and accommodations for supporting students with SLD.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, teachers, and parents/guardians.
  • Patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach when working with students facing behavioural challenges.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations, employing de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students and the changing demands of the educational setting.
  • Relevant qualifications or certifications in education, psychology, or related fields are desirable.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and staying up-to-date with advancements in the field.
