Position Overview:
We are currently seeking an experienced tutor to deliver GCSE support for a teenage girl with autism and a severe visual impairment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver highly customized GCSE tuition sessions tailored to the specific needs of the student, who has ASC, visual impairment, sensory processing needs, dyspraxia, and social interaction and self-esteem needs.
  • Create accessible learning materials and resources in modified large print (size N48, Arial bold) with enhanced diagrams to accommodate the student’s visual impairment.
  • Collaborate closely with the student’s advisory teacher from Devon’s visual impairment team to ensure a coordinated approach to support.
  • Implement various teaching techniques, including the use of voice-recognition software and text-reading software, to facilitate the student’s learning and independence.
  • Provide regular typing practice sessions using VI-friendly websites like doorwayonline.
  • Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment that addresses the student’s unique academic and emotional needs.
  • Monitor the student’s progress, assess their strengths and areas for improvement, and adapt the tuition approach accordingly.
  • Prepare the student for GCSE exams in subjects such as English, Maths, Science, French, Music, and History, with a focus on the July 2023 exams.


  • Qualified teacher status.
  • Previous experience working with students with visual impairments.
  • Expertise in adapting educational materials into accessible formats for students with visual impairments.
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies, including voice-recognition software and text-reading software.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for making a positive impact on students with diverse needs.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with advisory teachers and professionals from the visual impairment team.
