Lexia Education Services is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Dyslexia Support Tutor to join our team in Taunton, Somerset. As a leading provider of educational support services, we are committed to empowering young people with dyslexia and helping them overcome academic challenges. In this role, you will work closely with students, providing specialised tutoring and guidance to enhance their reading, writing, and overall academic skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one tutoring sessions to young people with dyslexia, focusing on improving their reading, writing, spelling, and comprehension abilities.
  • Develop and implement tailored learning plans based on individual students’ needs, strengths, and learning styles.
  • Utilise evidence-based interventions and specialised teaching techniques to support students with dyslexia in their academic progress.
  • Adapt teaching materials and resources to accommodate different learning styles and preferences.
  • Employ multisensory teaching approaches to enhance phonological awareness, decoding, and encoding skills.
  • Help students develop effective study strategies, time management skills, and organisational techniques.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment, promoting self-confidence and a positive attitude towards learning.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and educational professionals to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive support plan for students.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and progress reports to students, parents, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Stay informed about current research and best practices in dyslexia support, incorporating new strategies into tutoring sessions as appropriate.
  • Attend relevant professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills in supporting students with dyslexia.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with dyslexia in an educational or tutoring setting.
  • Strong understanding of dyslexia and its impact on reading, writing, and learning processes.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based interventions and strategies for supporting individuals with dyslexia.
  • Ability to assess students’ strengths and challenges and develop individualised intervention plans accordingly.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish a positive learning environment.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with dyslexia.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and resources for dyslexia support.
  • Relevant qualifications or certifications in education, special education, or dyslexia support are desirable.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in working with students and their families.
