As a Behaviour Support Worker and Mentor, you will play a vital role in providing guidance and support to students with SEMH needs, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their full potential. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Building positive relationships with students and establishing a safe and supportive environment.
  • Implementing individualised behaviour support plans and strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional well-being.
  • Assisting students in developing social and emotional skills, promoting self-regulation and resilience.
  • Providing mentoring and one-on-one support to students, addressing their specific needs and goals.
  • Collaborating with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  • Monitoring student progress, documenting behavioural observations, and reporting on outcomes.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Previous experience working with young people with SEMH needs in a school or alternative education setting.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and interventions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience to work effectively with students facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
  • A commitment to promoting inclusion, diversity, and equality in education.

A relevant qualification in psychology, counselling, or a related field is desirable but not essential. Training and professional development opportunities will be provided to support your growth and enhance your skills in working with students with SEMH needs.
